How it works
Cost per click divides advertising spend by clicks. It describes the price of traffic, without establishing whether that traffic becomes profitable customers.
The formula
Keep currency, units and time periods consistent. Percentage inputs use percentage points (enter 5 for 5%). Results are rounded only for display; tiny nonzero values may use scientific notation. Undefined ratios are shown as unavailable.
Ad spend: $2,000; Clicks: 4,000; CPC: $0.50; Impressions: 200,000; CTR: 2.00%; Conversions: 100; CVR: 2.50%; CPA: $20.00; Revenue: $8,000; ROAS: 4.00x; Max CPC at $18 target CPA: $0.45.
Calculation method
CTR uses impressions as its denominator. Conversion rate uses clicks, CPA uses conversions, and ROAS compares attributed revenue with advertising spend.
Interpretation
An affordable CPC from target CPA depends on the click-to-conversion rate. Cheap clicks can remain expensive acquisitions when few visitors convert.
Limitations
Use aligned date ranges and attribution definitions. Targets hold conversion behavior and revenue per click constant; platform attribution and actual incremental revenue can differ.

Frequently asked questions
Does lower CPC always improve profitability?
No. Cheaper clicks may convert less often or produce less revenue. Compare CPC with conversion rate, CPA and contribution using the same attribution window.
